Will the Inline Wireless Relay Work Through a Metal Canopy or Enclosure?

Short answer: yes and no — it depends on your specific setup.

The Inline Wireless Relay (sometimes called the "Starlink Remote," for Starlink Mini & Gen 3) uses RF (radio frequency) signal to communicate with its remote. Aluminium — and metal generally — does have a deterring effect on RF signal, so a fully enclosed aluminium canopy can weaken the range and reliability of the connection.

How to check before you buy

If you have a normal RF remote handy — like a garage door remote or similar — the easiest way to check is to test it from the same spot you'd be using the relay. If you get a good, reliable signal through your canopy with that remote, our relay uses the same type of signal and should perform similarly for you.

Every canopy and vehicle setup is a little different (thickness, any gaps or vents, distance to the remote), so this quick test is the most reliable way to know before ordering, rather than a blanket yes or no.
